Rain and Lightning Struck at Notre Dame

Saturday, October 3, 2009 by Peter Marr
The team that beat USC and then were killed by Stanford, is now leading Notre Dame with the recovery and running in of a backward pass.  The rain is making it tough to play, but the lightning strike by Washington put ND on their heels.

Lightening Strikes Again - This time it is ND.  Clausen to Golden Tate for 67 yards has now put ND back ahead.  Golden Tate broke a tackle by two converging Huskies and ran most of the 67 yards for the TD.

The University of Washington bookstore probably is struggling to decide how much University of Washington merchandise to stock this year.  First they beat the #1 ranked team, USC - get more stuff, lots more stuff.  Then they lose to Stanford, cancel the orders -- quickly!  Now they can't decide whether they will beat ND or not.

It looks like Stanford is looking to come back.  A pass slipped through ND's Butler's hands into a Huskie's.  Only 35 yards away.  Oops, Washington fumbles and ND has it back.  Now this is a real back and forth game.  Rain always makes these game more interesting.

Washington has one more chance before the half.  Jake Locker and the Huskies need to get about 40 yards to get a field goal.  They just got 30 --- then another 25.  Now they are in field goal position.  They have a chance to go into the clubhouse with the lead.

Washington 17 --- Notre Dame 16 at half.

Notre Dame getting back to their glory days? Not anytime soon!

Sunday, September 27, 2009 by Peter Marr
After beating the likes of Michigan State and Nevada but losing to Michigan, someone actually thinks that Notre Dame is on their way back?  The odds makers know better.  They only give ND a 7 point advantage against Purdue -- a team that lost to Northern Illinois last week.  Sagarin has them rated as #37 on one spot above the same Northern Illinois team that beat Purdue last week.

There is a bit over 1 minute left in the Purdue game and Purdue is ahead by 4.  Notre Dame is within striking distance with Clausen having a powerful throwing arm.  It second and 10 on the Purdue 21 and there is only 1:11 left.  Falling to 2-2 would kill any chances of respectability for ND this year.  They are now on the Purdue 4 with a 2nd and goal and 42 seconds to go.  The season hangs on these next few plays.  A field goal won't do it.

Purdue just called timeout and I really can't understand it.  ND had no timeouts left and only 36 seconds to go.  Here comes 3rd and goal.  Incomplete -- now here comes the season for ND.  Fourth and goal with 29 seconds to go.  Touchdown ND.  There goes that great story about stopping ND and ruining their season for Purdue.  They will have to take their consolation in the fact that they beat the spread.

For you proud but defeated Purdue fans, LogoProducts4Less has a great collection of Purdue University merchandise for you to consider as you show off your team spirit.  The selection includes:
  • Purdue Mats
  • Purdue License Plates
  • Purdue Key chains
  • Purdue Decals
  • Purdue Hitch Covers
  • Purdue Tire Covers
  • Purdue Rear Window Graphics
  • Purdue Cell Phone Covers
  • Purdue Rear Window Graphics
  • Purdue Signs
There are more new items being added every week.  As you can see, there are many items that you can't find at the Purdue University bookstore.  Bookmark LogoProducts4Less.com for your Purdue University merchandise and gifts.

Bucky stuffs Sparty

Saturday, September 26, 2009 by Jim F.

In a battle of two of the sappier Big Ten mascots, this week's league opener should prove to be a good one.  Whether you're waving your Michigan State University flag in front of the University of Wisconsin bookstore, or pasting Badger decals on ole Sparty himself, get ready for some serious action.

The Wisconsin Badgers are undefeated at 3-0 and ready to welcome their next victim to Camp Randall.  The Badgers have been nearly impossible to beat at home going 33-4 since 2004.  Bucky protects his house with the 4th best home record in all of college football!

Next up for Wisconsin is Michigan State to kickoff their Big Ten schedule in what should be a shootout.  The Badgers are racking up 35 points a game and their last 2 games against the Spartans have been decided by a total of 4 points.  But Wisconsin has won 4 of the last 5 match-ups at home.

Bucky’s offense has been perfect in the red zone this year, scoring on all 12 of their possessions, and should roll on Saturday against a shaky Michigan State defense.  John Clay and the ground attack will overpower a pretty weak Spartan front line, while quarterback Scott Tolzien picks apart a porous secondary that’s been shredded by Notre Dame and Central Michigan.  Tolzien is completing nearly 70% of his passes and ranks 2nd in the Big Ten.

Badger fans will have plenty of reasons to jump around on Saturday as Bucky puts the smack down on Sparty.  Mark it a W for Wisconsin!

And if you're wanting some Michigan State University stuff to decorate your place there in Madison, like your own stuffed Sparty doll, check out this great little site.  They have a lot of great University of Wisconsin merchandise - from license plates to key chains, from seat covers to mats, from spare tire covers to pickup bed covers - they got it covered.

A sad day for South Bend, Indiana

Thursday, September 24, 2009 by Peter Marr
Notre Dame isn't what it used to be.  Jobs are disappearing in the Rust Belt  Now, the College Football Hall of Fame is moving out of town.  Earlier today The National Football Foundation announced that they were moving to Atlanta, Georgia when their lease runs out on December 31, 2010.

Maybe if the Irish has won some more games or if South Bend was a bigger city, it would be survived.  This loss, however, is coming to a city that has bounced back from losses like the shut down of Studebaker, the closing of Red Ball Jets facilities and the downsizing of Bendix.  Don't count South Bend out.  They always seem to come back.

South Bend doesn't have to live off of the University of Notre Dame bookstore sales to survive.  Hopefully, they will find a way to get one of the Obama high speed trains from South Bend into Chicago.  The old South Shore Railroad that has hauled Irish fans back an forth for almost 100 years is old and slow.  If anyone looks at the multi-modal airport in South Bend they would find a combination that more cities should follow.  There are airplanes, trains, buses and cars all converging on this one location.  Washington D.C. -- let this city be a model for the future.

For all of you loyal fans from Indiana, there is a place where you can find the merchandise and gifts you are looking for.  LogoProducts4Less.com has all of the following for you Hoosiers.

Weiss Whines Woefully

Monday, September 14, 2009 by Peter Marr

I couldn't believe my ears.  Was Charlie Weiss indirectly blaming the officiating for the loss.  Weiss and ND have now sunk to a new low.  At least Gary Faust, Ty Willingham and Joe Kuharic took their losses at ND without whining.  Weiss needs to accept that their last possession was his chance to run out the clock.  That isn't done by passing three times.

There were thousands of fans adorned with University of Michigan merchandise that drove back across the border with happy faces.  The sales at the University of Notre Dame bookstore probably took a hit from disgruntled fans who decided not to shop there on Saturday.

To show how quickly the Irish can come back, I attended a Notre Dame softball camp on Sunday at the beautiful Melissa Cook field.  By the way, that is one of the finest softball fields in the country.  They had dozens of girls working on batting, fielding and pitching.  At the end of each session the girls all came together for a big -- Go Irish!  No one mentioned the loss from Saturday, they were all just excited about playing on a college field and getting better at their craft.  In the parking lot as we were leaving I watch almost every girl walk by with brand new University of Notre Dame merchandise that their parents bought them as leaving the camp.  So whether ND wins or loses, the advertising campaign goes on.  Although not this weekend, but soon the University of Notre Dame bookstore will be packed with excited fans after ND beats someone not quite as good as they are.

Army Football Team Undefeated

Sunday, September 6, 2009 by Peter Marr
For the first time since 1996, the Army football team has a winning record.  Yesterday they beat hapless Eastern Michigan.   After losing to Army, I am sure the EMU students were more likely to visit the campus Army recruiting office than they were to buy EMU stuff at the Eastern Michigan University bookstore.

Sales of Army license plate  and other Army merchandise were obviously on the rise.  The Cadets are standing tall.  They are brandishing their Army stuff boldly and proudly.  They are now claiming that with their Freshman QB that this is the beginning of a dynasty.  The probability of that ranks right up there with the chances of winning in Afganistan.

The next thing you know, the Army faithful will sending Army gifts to the AD at Notre Dame.  They have been off the ND schedule for a while.  With the quality of Notre Dame's schedule, they are probably right in thinking they will be back on.   Unfortunately for Army, all of the benefit will be at the University of Notre Dame bookstore.  They won't sell any more Army decals, because Notre Dame only plays at home unless you are a top 10 team or have a home and home relationship that extends back to WWII.

If you want
  • Notre Dame to have a winning record
  • Notre Dame to participate in a second rate bowl game
  • Army to play someone better than Ball State or Rutgers
  • Laugh when the Black Knights knock off ND
  • Wear your Army merchandise with pride
then you need to promote the ND-Army matchup.  My suggestion would be to wait until ND is 3-5.  Then they are more than willing to add a weak opponent.  Maybe Army can surprise them and get themselves into a second rate bowl game.

It will be fun to watch and see how both of these mediocre teams end up the year -- and whether they will face off again in 2010 or later.

Who would want University of Notre Dame merchandise?

Tuesday, September 1, 2009 by Jim F.
As an avid life-long fan of whoever was playing Notre Dame, I never imagined owning one piece of Notre Dame logo merchandise.  Nor would I have been caught dead waving an ND flag or wearing an Irish cap.  Up until a few years ago when my cousin invited me to a Notre Dame Football game.  Hanging around campus for a couple hours with him and his 2 boys, catching the Marching Band get it all going "on the steps".  Then as they marched across campus to ND Stadium, and watching them explode out of the tunnel onto the field, and actually hearing that dreaded fight song live inside that stadium.  I was a goner.  While I cannot confess to anyone my new found loyalty, I can find a lot of great University of Notre Dame merchandise on this great web store ( LogoProducts4Less.com ).  I can shop from the privacy of my home office, away from the University of Notre Dame Bookstore where I might be recognized, and ridiculed.  While I secretly believe ND will be back on top this season, helped in part by a somewhat softer schedule, you won't hear me say it to any of my cousins.  I will just quietly sit here on my Notre Dame seat cover, with my feet on one of my ND floor mats, drinking out of my Notre Dame cup, and smile as they beat up Army again.

And how is it that a group of Native Irish Americans haven't gone off against this guy yet???
