So what's all the fuss about Hello Kitty stuff?

In a recent visit to a client's office, all work comes to a standstill when the owner breaks her pen.  She is in tears as she tries in vain to restore her Hello Kitty pen back to life.  While I'm thinking what the heck, my chivalry overtakes me, and I suggest a site that has all kinds of Hello Kitty merchandise ( www.logoproducts4less.com ).  I know in my searches for other cartoon characters on this site, that I have seen this furry cat with a red bow tie stuck on its ear.  While I know they advertise lots of Hello Kitty gifts, I'm not sure about pens.  None the less, she investigates the site, and falls in love with the Hello Kitty ornaments and fluffy dice they have for sale.  Turns out her teenage daughter is an even bigger fan, and Mom is already planning on a Hello Kitty seat cover, floor mats, and a key chain for her when she gets her drivers license later this month.  But I digress.  What is with this silly cat?

In doing a little detective work, I discover that this is a Japanese cartoon character created in 1974 and has been a huge attraction both in Japan and the US for 35 years.  First appearing on a small coin purse, the market has mushroomed into all kinds of Hello Kitty accessories and faldoral.  HK has had a couple of TV shows, Furry Tale Theater and Hello Kitty & Friends.  Probably in reruns on Disney with any luck.  You can even get some Hello Kitty decals for your car window or cube wall.  Check out the site and load up like my client did!!!   You can never have enough of this crazy cat.
