I have now been relegated to being both my dog's walker and poop collector. After 60 years of meaningless existence, I have truly arrived. Shhheeeee.......... With bowels inspired by walking, our 15 year old puppy empties what must be a weeks worth of food in 4 or 5 stops before we even reach the end of the block. On good days, everything stays in the bag. On the other days, it becomes a hands on thing, if you know what I mean.
For all of my fussing about pooping, Chelsea the Dog makes me chuckle as she prances around the 2-3 mile course we take. She looks like Scooby Doo, with her head held high, chest puffed out, tongue & tail wagging, and the scooby walk. Everyone we meet has to smile at her.
I have now found a nice practice soccer field at one of our local high schools that is bordered on three sides by tall grass, brush, and trees. From Chelsea's perspective, the boundaries are quite clear. I tried letting her loose and found that she can still run like the wind. Pretty cool for a 15 year Bichon-Cockapoo mix. Hard to believe that this is the same dog that now sleeps 23 hours a day, pretty much wherever she is at the time. In the laundry room, on the kitchen floor, in the middle of the family room, don't matter. And she has now learned to ignore everything else on the planet during these impromptu "naps".
BUT, when she sees me heading out for my bike ride, she is instantly on the alert, knowing there WILL be a W-A-L-K when I get back. When I return and open the door, she is ready-teddy, jumping around and following me everywhere!
That's the nice thing about dogs - they don't care how bad your day is or how tired you are or even what they did 5 minutes ago. They are just genuinely glad to see you. Especially if there are walks involved!
