With the potential 14th consecutive loss facing them today, I think it is time to change the
Baltimore Orioles merchandise and put on new logos. For years we have had to look at this bird sitting on top of the word Orioles. The team plays as delicately as this bird looks. It is time to put a new and meaner face on the bird.
Maybe it doesn't have to be mean. It can just be fast -- like Carl Crawford is for Tampa Bay. (BTW he might be available in free agency at the end of next year.) Or fast like Robin Roberts was in his hey day.
Or maybe the bird should have a more sturdy look. Like one that could last 2632 consecutive games. Think - Cal Ripken!
It could even be beefed up to be a more powerful bird, like Frank Robinson did for them in 1965. With Baltimore Orioles merchandise that has a cartoon bird that is big and strong like Frank, the team and fans would puff out their chests and be once again proud to be a Bird Fan.
They could even think about stealing some old bird names like Bluebirds from Cleveland - now that is a tougher bird. Or Doves from Boston - that is a bigger bird, although with a sweeter connotation. Even Robins from the old Brooklyn or Blue Jays from Philadelphia sounds a bit more macho.
Better still, why not go back to being the Browns, which is what they were called before
moving from St. Louis. You can make up and infinite number of logos with a name Browns. There are web sites that will create the new logo for under $100 for you. Better yet they could license the Oriole Bird.
Last, but not least, they could start winning some ball games and become the Orioles of old. Right now they have to get their act in gear to avoid a 100 loss season. That is something that would make even Cal Ripken stay away from the ballpark.
