Hal McCoy was the real McCoy

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Peter Marr
It was sad when I read that the Dayton Daily News sports reporter Hal McCoy was retiring.  The 2002 J.G. Taylor Spink Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame was recently notified that his paper was no longer able to afford a traveling Cincinnati Reds reporter.

Hal McCoy was famous for his investigative reporting on the Pete Rose gambling affair.  He was also part of a long time tradition of traveling baseball reporters.  For over 37 years, Hal has covered 7000+ games and posted 25,000 reports.  Hal wrote about more Cincinnati Reds stuff than anyone.  Those days are dying as we watch the print media follow it into the grave.

With the millions of people who have followed his column, there should be Cincinnati Reds merchandise with his picture or some other memorabilia.  We always remember the teams and the stars, but we don't give enough recognition to those who tell all about our favorite teams.

Do you need some Cincinnati Red merchandise.  There is a great collection of Cincinnati Red decals, floor mats and other items at LogoProducts4Less.com.  This week we added new Red floor mats and Cincinnati Reds decals for the back window of a truck, SUV or car.
