Army Football Team Undefeated

For the first time since 1996, the Army football team has a winning record.  Yesterday they beat hapless Eastern Michigan.   After losing to Army, I am sure the EMU students were more likely to visit the campus Army recruiting office than they were to buy EMU stuff at the Eastern Michigan University bookstore.

Sales of Army license plate  and other Army merchandise were obviously on the rise.  The Cadets are standing tall.  They are brandishing their Army stuff boldly and proudly.  They are now claiming that with their Freshman QB that this is the beginning of a dynasty.  The probability of that ranks right up there with the chances of winning in Afganistan.

The next thing you know, the Army faithful will sending Army gifts to the AD at Notre Dame.  They have been off the ND schedule for a while.  With the quality of Notre Dame's schedule, they are probably right in thinking they will be back on.   Unfortunately for Army, all of the benefit will be at the University of Notre Dame bookstore.  They won't sell any more Army decals, because Notre Dame only plays at home unless you are a top 10 team or have a home and home relationship that extends back to WWII.

If you want
  • Notre Dame to have a winning record
  • Notre Dame to participate in a second rate bowl game
  • Army to play someone better than Ball State or Rutgers
  • Laugh when the Black Knights knock off ND
  • Wear your Army merchandise with pride
then you need to promote the ND-Army matchup.  My suggestion would be to wait until ND is 3-5.  Then they are more than willing to add a weak opponent.  Maybe Army can surprise them and get themselves into a second rate bowl game.

It will be fun to watch and see how both of these mediocre teams end up the year -- and whether they will face off again in 2010 or later.
