I know all of you are thinking about your fantasy teams.  You are reading all the blogs about who's hot and who's not.  Every week you have your favorite Power Ranking based upon who thinks your team is the best.  We are all looking for someone to validate our own thoughts. 

For those of us who sell NFL merchandise, the wins and losses don't matter.  All we care about is whose jersey or hat is the hottest.  So far this year it goes as follows:

1. Pittsburgh Steelers Merchandise
2. Chicago Bears Merchandise
3. Dallas Cowboys Merchandise
4. New England Patriots Merchandise
5. Philadelphia Eagles Merchandise

Yes, fans, these are the best and the brightest in my book.  All I want to know is which Pittsburgh Steelers decal or which Pittsburgh Steelers ornaments are going to sell this Fall.  If I knew that I would be able to fill every order quickly and efficiently.  Unfortunately, I am at the mercy of an injured quarterback or an old quarterback who is on a hot streak.  If the Arizona Cardinals get hot with the fans, there is nothing we can do to get more Arizona Cardinals merchandise.  I only have what I have. 

Each year before the season begins we have to guess which teams will be hot.  The Bears, Patriots and Packers will always have a loyal following.  But there will be a surprise.  There is one very year.  We will have to quickly call our manufacturers to see if they can get us more flags, ornaments, decals or floor mats.  Maybe they will come in before the shine of the underdog gets tarnished.

Do I have a guess on who the underdog will be this year? Nope!  I never guess because I always guess these things wrong.  That is the same reason I don't play fantasy football.  The only year I played I came in 7th place in my league.  That wasn't good enough to encourage me to spend more time trying to get better.  Instead what I do now is exactly what I have done for the past 45 years -- watch my Bears, cheer for my Bears and curse when my Bears don't live up to my exalted expectations.
